About us

The family who run the croft and associated businesses consists of Niall, Fay and the three children.

Niall has spent his entire career managing wild deer across much of Scotland. From his childhood in the flow country of Caithness, he worked for 40 years in both the public and private sectors, managing deer and natural resources.

Fay hails from a traditional West Coast family with a strong culture of crofting and fishing. She spent a period of her career as a police officer with the Northern Constabulary and held various administration roles in the countryside sector.

Our three children are actively involved in the management of the croft and associated businesses throughout the year.

Our vision is to live sustainably and provide for our family’s future in a cared for landscape.

Our Animals

In this remote Highland landscape, our animals are central to a sustainable crofting system that works with nature.

Our herd of farmed red deer, native Shetland cattle, and North Country Cheviot sheep each help manage the land. By grazing different plants and habitats, they maintain the mix of grassland, heath, and moorland that supports wildlife. Their grazing recycles nutrients, boosts botanical diversity, and helps preserve the character of this iconic landscape.

These hardy, traditional breeds are well suited to Highland conditions and thrive on forage that cannot be used for crops. They turn natural vegetation into high-quality, nutritious food with minimal external inputs.

For us, sustainability means producing food responsibly, caring for the land, and ensuring our crofting strengthens biodiversity, supports rural livelihoods, and builds a resilient landscape for future generations.
